Thanks to Erasmo Cortez

My husband got let go from the company he had worked for many years. They called it early retirement and downsizing. I just call it plain disrespect for an employee that has made you so much money. That is not the only thing I called it. Be that as it may, my husband is now a self-employed independent contractor or consultant who works out of our house. He brought home all his personal computers and bought a few extra things to go with them. Now we have all this expensive equipment in our house. I told him that I was not comfortable with all that equipment in our house without some kind of security system. He said that we had plenty of insurance to cover everything. But, when I told him that he could lose all the information he had stored on the computers if they got stolen, he had second thoughts. Then he decided to look at security systems to see what they had to offer in the line of security for our home. Then before I knew it the company was out installing everything that we could possibly need in the way of security. I feel much safer now knowing that we have that all in place.

How do you evaluate the value of an employee in a certain company? What are the factors that need to be considered? Do you go by his academic achievements or by his years of experience? One way is to get to know him personally buy spending time with him. Another easier and indirect approach is to employ a company like Korn/Ferry International to have an evaluation done on him. Okay, maybe you need not employ to evaluate the value of the janitor or clerk in your company. You however should consider it if you want to know more about the CEO of a certain company that you are interested to buy or merge with your company.

Dennis C Carey, Senior Client Partner of Korn/Ferry International would agree that information about the human capital and intelligence plays a very important role when making decisions to buy or merge with another company. Rightly so because at the end of the day, the success of any company is determined largely by its human capital. It would be disastrous to buy a company that may appear good on paper but is full of weaknesses inside. We need “healthy” people to build up a healthy company.

For a healthier mind, body and spirit, I decided to close my internet cafe business on Sunday. Well, you might think that I am crazy because Sunday is the day with the most customers. But I am trusting God for His blessing. The main thing now is to honour God’s day; the Sabbath day.

Furthermore, if I work on Sunday, it will also mean, no football for me. There goes my once a week exercise. Apart from that, I will also have no time for my family.

So, Sunday is closed. :)
